ClockWerx for SFC

ClockWerx

DK: King of Swing-lite

Genre: puzzle - overhead

Publisher: Tokuma Shoten

Year: 1995

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Plays like DK: King of Swing, except with little to no control of your player. Instead you constantly rotate around a peg and press A to grab onto the next peg. Fatally, the controls are terrible. It's a single button game and the controls are somehow awful! I can only get a button press to register about half the time. And the twitch control aspect of moving between pegs while avoiding the rotating arrows that kill you is an absolute deal killer. Actually, there is a secnod button, B, which changes the direction of your rotation.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

With such a simple mechanic, there's not much to be done with the level design. Your goal is to navigate your way to a certain peg. In your way are missing pegs, spinning arrows, and some spikes in the space between pegs. For the most part the levels are confusing.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Yet another puzzle game with Alexey Pajitnov's mug slapped onto it. Not really sure why they had to do this on so many non-Tetris-like titles. But besides that misuse of a celebrity license, this game has no vibes. Your player is a goofy guy who look like a stripped down version of the Bonanza Bros, but there's nothing else humanoid about the game, so it feels entirely out-of-place.

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Quite ugly. There's nothing but a simply dark background with some dimly lit dots.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

An annoying track plays continuously. Wah wah wah
