Gameplay

Responsive controls. The gimmick is that you shoot bubbles which trap enemies. It feels a lot like Kirby.
The game adds mechanics throughout to keep things interesting.
You've got three bars of health and plenty of health pickups. Fairly easy game.
Plays about as well as any Mario or other first party Nintendo game.
No save and it takes passwords but I can't figure out how to see my password!

Level Design

Overhead map like a Mario game.
Each world has 6 or 7 levels. Each level has a unique gimmick and feel within the theme of the world.
Very creative level designs. There's delight to be found all over the place.

Theme

Lovely cartoony feel. You can't help but smile the whole time.

Art Style

Fantastic pixel artwork.
Unbelievably charming. Not the most technically impressive artwork but easily the most charming 16-bit title I can think of.
Cutscenes have a cinematic, anime style.
Expressive animations.

Audio

One of the most unique soundtracks of this generation. Many of the songs are absolute gems. Most have a haunting, ethereal quality. Some barely qualify as a song at all but are instead just ambiety sounds. The music and the sounds are consistently beautiful and pleasing.
