Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden

Beauty is skin deep

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Bandai

Year: 1993

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Barely playable. Some of the laggiest gameplay ever. You've got a punch, kick, and fireball. X allows you to zoom into the sky. Your ki meter powers up as you take damage and limits what you can do with your fireball. When you're far apart the screen zooms way out, which is thematcially correct but confusing in practice. Movement is so slow and stilted that it's challenging to get close to your opponent.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Story, Tournament, and VS modes.

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

Dragon Ball Z!

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Nicely drawn sprites which feature almost no frams of animation and terrible framerate. the split screen is impressive, but every other technical aspect of this game's graphics is poor. Also, the effects from fireballs is pitiful.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Great music, although it's very quiet. The voices are good, but infrequent.

Overall Score: 44
