Dragon Ball Z: Super Gokuden Totsugeki Hen
Dragon Ball zzz zzz zzzGenre: rpg - visual novel
Publisher: Bandai
Year: 1995
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 0
Gameplay Notes:
Barely interactive. The few fights you encounter are little more than QTEs. The vast majority of the game is spent scrolling through text and choosing responses, all while headshots of the characters jump around the screen. So yeah, it's a visual novel through and through.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
How do you grade a manga that's cosplaying as a video game? I've never found a visual novel that I liked, and this hasn't changed that. I would much rather just pick up the manga. It makes me think of the Where's Waldo game - just stick with the medium that this sort of thing was made for.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
Shoot me if want, but as cute as the Dragon Ball universe is, this story is way too obsessed with Bulma's panties. C'mon already
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Easily the best aspect of this "game". The headshots look great and the isometric environments and sprites are equally well made. They don't do much, unfortunately, but they are true to the manga.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
The music didn't do much for me. It's not bad, but got very repetitive due to the massive amount of text to scroll through.
