Dream Basketball: Dunk & Hoop for SFC
Review #2093
Dream Basketball: Dunk & Hoop
NBA Give 'n Go, on Ice
Gameplay
Looks and plays a lot like NBA Give 'n Go, only with a much worse passing system, no fouls, and an inability to take a clean shot. That said, it's arcadey and mildly entertaining, which is better than most basketball games of the era. I enjoyed my time with it anyway. Not enough to recommend it, but hey, it's something.
Gameplay-wise the movement feels good, but passing is annoying. Steals happen on about one third of all passes so it's generally best to avoid doing so. You must switch between targets using R and L but players move around so much that it takes too long to cycle through and pick the open man. Also, shooting is weird. Half the time when driving to the basket you shot becomes a dunk but the other half it's a weak fadeaway that is guaranteed to be blocked.
Level Design
Two courts and two modes - 5 on 5 and 3 on 3. You can play a tournament or exhibition.
Theme
The menus and music give off an edgy 90s street ball vibe, although the gameplay gives off none of that. No NBA license.
Art Style
Looks good in motion. The camera is zoomed in a little too far which obscures the view of the court. But honestly it doesn't look bad. The animations are pure cringe though.
Audio
The soundtrack consists of one loud, 90s hip hop beat.
