Hashire Hebereke for SFC

Hashire Hebereke

The cutest yet hardest racing game ever made

Genre: racing - isometric

Publisher: Sunsoft

Year: 1994

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

The game controls like RC Pro-Am were left always rotates to the players left. You can change this to the direction. Always going the way that you see it on the screen. This is a nice addition but doesn't change the fact that the controls are awful. When you're going straight, the turns work fine and you can make even sharp turns okay. You skid around the corners so it's almost like drifting. The problem is that when you bounce into a wall or another player in particular you get thrown across the map and all momentum is stopped and that's it for the race. There is no recovery from even the most minor mistake. The game requires absolute perfection and for the other players to stay away from you because of course you get thrown Timbuktu but they don't even notice bumping into you. I really wanted to enjoy this and worked hard to figure out how to avoid getting knocked around so bad, but this is the most unforgiving game I've played in quite a while. You can pick up Mario Kart style items and hold three at a time but I could never hit an opponent with one.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

The tracks are well designed. They are fun and have a lot of variety. It's just a shame that the controls are so awful.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

The Hebereke crowd. All menus are in Japanese so it's hard to navigate without knowing that language.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

The graphics are cute and the characters are very well animated.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

I didn't like much of the music. Sounds like a circus

Overall Score: 40
