Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius

Kill that octopus once and for all

Genre: shooter - horizontal

Publisher: Konami

Year: 1995

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

More of the same. The same awesomeness. There are 16(!!) playable characters. Again, the slowdown is ample, but also necessary to have any chance of beating the game.

Level Design Score: 5

Level Design Notes:

So creative! This one also includes the ability to save your spot so you can practice certain levels. I'm not sure why they didn't just include a stage select.

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

So much fun. Goemon and Ebisumaru even make a cameo!

Art Style Score: 5

Art Style Notes:

Amazing pixel artwork. It's got some strange elements that look out of place but even these are well done. For example, one level has sprites which are prerendered like DKC or Mario RPG.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

The music is straight-up awesome, without adding silliness like the first game did. This isn't parody music, it's just great music. The only knock I have on it is the announcer who gives some sort of commentary throughout the game. It's SO annoying, and thankfully can be disabled from the options menu, but is on by default. Turn it off!

Overall Score: 88
