J.League Super Soccer '95 Jikkyou Stadium

If only you had a goalie

Genre: sports - soccer

Publisher: Hudson Soft

Year: 1995

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

This is a completely different game engine than the previous title. Controls work. You can run around although your opponents are generally faster than you, but they miss with most of their tackles. You can move the ball around the pitch. Passing can be difficult and their goalie stops most shots. The real problem is you're your goalie is dumb as rocks and playing defense is challenging because you can't tell which player you're controlling. In fact you, I think you're controlling all of them at once. And doing nothing allows the AI to control everything. So you really don't have to play defense at all. But the other team scores almost at will so best to try. They got rid of the multiple cameras infagor of only the side view.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Lots of Japanese text. However, the gameplay and sound design make for a pretty compelling atmosphere.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Tall, thin sprites that are very well animated. I mean it's just a soccer pitch but it looks pretty good. Also. The cutscenes after a goal and whatnot are impressive.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Incredible sound design. The crowd reactions match the on-screen action and an announcer speaks at appropriate times. There's a nice song that plays continuously. Just really good stuff all around
