Koushien 4 for SFC

Koushien 4

Fielding at quarter speed

Genre: sports - baseball

Publisher: Magical Company

Year: 1995

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

This is the weirdest baseball franchise I've ever seen. Each of the three games has nothing in common with the other two. They all look, play, and sound unique. The last one is by far the worst of the bunch, even if it has a couple of good ideas. Hitting requires you to move a reticle to the exact spot where the ball reticle moves to. This is realistic but hard to achieve with a d-pad. The physics are impressive. However, everything about the fielding is terrible. For starters it moves at about 25% speed. I thought it was a problem with the emulator so I tried it on the Super NT but got the same result. I'm shocked that a publisher would release this garbage! Second, the fielders are idiots - they routinely allow routine grounders to turn into triples. This is some of the worst AI I've seen in a baseball game.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

The only mode I found is a tournament.

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

High school baseball. Strange story elements pre game. Not thanks.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Goofy SD character models that seem to be copying from the Pro Yakyuu franchise. They don't look bad, but they don't fit the high school theme.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

Annoying

Overall Score: 22
