Magic Knight Rayearth
The RPG for girly girlsGenre: rpg - japanese
Publisher: Tomy
Year: 1995
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Pretty standard JRPG mechanics. I love that you've got a three person party right out of the gate and quickly level up and acquire useful magic. This feels like an RPG that respects your time like Chrono Trigger and Mario RPG. Not much grinding is needed. My only gripes are that movement is too slow and encounters are too frequent, but these are manageable.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
The story moves quickly and moves you around the world quickly. Each of the early areas has a quick way to restore all HP and MP to again keep the game moving along.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
It's your standard Lion Witch and Wardrobe trope with three young teens who need to save a realm from an evil witch. Doesn't do anything for me and actually is disconcerting with how the story treats these young girls.
Art Style Score: 5
Art Style Notes:
Lovely pixel art. Standout battle graphics which use an isometric view.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
I enjoyed lost of the music. It's nowhere near to tier but it's better than average
