Makeruna! Makendou 2: Kimero Youkai Souri

Sailor Moon meets Waku Waku 7

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Datam Polystar

Year: 1995

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Pretty standard SF2 controls. In fact, the main characters has the same moveset as Ryu/Ken. The controls are somewhat laggy but they aren't bad at all.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Every fight is different. The first few are standard fights against humanoid opponents, but then it gets weird. One fight is against a lady I can only describe as Humpty Dumpty. Another fight is against a foe so large that you only see his foot or arm that flies in from one side of the screen. Yet another is the gayest merman you'll ever see. Unfortunately, the game only has two mode - Story and 2P VS, so when playing alone you can only play story and only as the main character. All other characters are played in the VS mode.

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

One of the strangest games I've ever played. Soccer players, zombies, ballerinas, time traveling in a school bus, aliens, mermaids, the Power Rangers, a dominatrix, and an Egyptian pharoah. This game's got it all.

Art Style Score: 5

Art Style Notes:

TONS of animation in the backgrounds. There's so much to look at. Sprites are well drawn and varied. Great use of color.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

The music is an acquired taste. It's eclectic and silly. Not something I'd listen to on purpose, but it fits the game perfectly.

Overall Score: 68
