Nakajima Satoru Kanshuu - F-1 Hero '94

Looks can be deceiving

Genre: racing - simulation

Publisher: Varie

Year: 1992

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Despite terrible visuals, annoying sound, poor sense of speed, bad presentation, and a horrible default button mapping, this game plays better than most of the F1 racers out there. It's still a terrible sport, but this is at least a playable video game. The keys to this game's success are 1) the slower gameplay which gives you time to see and prep for turns, and 2) the fixe camera views to choose from, including two overhead and three over the shoulder views and varying levels of closeness. You can take your pick.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

The standard modes are all here, although the menu options are not intuitive and are all in Japanese.

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

No F1 licenses, expect maybe the tracks? I don't know. Overall looks and feels like a low-tier sport title.

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Really, really, really horrible graphics. Graphical glithces all over the place. Decent framerate and ok backgrounds, but everything else is poor quality.

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

The engine noise is a high pitched squeal which drowns out the soft music. It doesn't even change to match the odometer and gear - it's just a constant, high squeal. Yuck

Overall Score: 48
