Nontan to Issho: Kurukuru Puzzle
For the kidsGenre: puzzle - blocks
Publisher: Victor Interactive Software
Year: 1994
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Match two. Reminds me a lot of Yoshi, but with better mechanics. Two piece blocks fall. You can reverse the pieces but not rotate them. Their size simplifies the gameplay as there's far less to worry about than many of these titles. As such the game is quite easy. I played it for 30 minutes straight without losing so that's got to count for something. The game even seems to give you the blocks that you need, which I appreciated. The only gimmick is a set of animal dance blocks which explode by wiping out two full rows of blocks around them. Ultimately the game's simplicity is its greatest strength and also its greatest weakness.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Tetris style selection of Type A or B and the speed.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
A bunch of generic cats and other animals.
Art Style Score: 1
Art Style Notes:
The actual blocks are cute but everything, from those blocks to the cutscenes and menus, have MS Paint quality artwork. Truly awful.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Music has a beach vibe. It's passable but will be more enjoyable to a kid than a grown man.
