Onizuka Katsuya Super Virtual Boxing
What are the controls?Genre: fighting - boxing
Publisher: SOFEL
Year: 1993
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Plays a lot like Punch-Out. You can throw jabs, hooks, uppercuts, and body shots, although the controls eat inputs like crazy. It's extremely difficult to throw what you want. And it feels completely random whether it will hit. It's a button masher, but kind of fun.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
There are no modes. You can choose between 6 opponents and tackle them in any order you want, but there isn't a practice mode for the weird controls. This game would greatly benefit from a way to practice. Every fight is the same, with the fighters having only slight differences. Nothing drastically unique like in Punch-Out.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
The crowd and vibe is good. It feels.lime you're in the ring in Vegas.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
The sprites are enormous and scale in and out using mode 7. It's an awesome effect. I love.it when the opponent goes down because they're a flat sprite. It looks like they're in a Pepper Mario game. It's comical.
Audio Score: 4

Great music and loud, satisfying sounds
