Shin Kidō Senki Gundam Wing: Endless Duel
Mechs meet Smash Bros button mashingGenre: fighting - 1v1
Publisher: Bandai
Year: 1996
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Pure button mashing bliss. Use your punches, kicks, swords, guns, and over-the-top energy blasts to smash your opponent. It's the equivalent of smashing your Transformers together as a kid. Fast, responsive controls that feel oh-so buttery smooth. Half the time I don't know what's happening or why, but it's a blast to do it.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Basic set of modes, but the three difficulty levels work well and there's a fun Trial mode where your health is carried over between a series of fights. It's like a boss rush.
Theme Score: 5
Theme Notes:
Oh boy. Mechs! Huge, colorful, glorious Kaiju sized mechs! The opening cinematic sets the stage and everything after that is as epic as can be. Excellent premise and presentation.
Art Style Score: 5
Art Style Notes:
Some of the most gorgeous artwork in a 16-bit title. And it moves like a dream. Not only are the sprites humongous, well animated, and beautifully drawn, but the special effects when you land a hits or perform a special move, our screen filling and fun to watch. Easily one of the best looking games of the generation.
Audio Score: 5
Audio Notes:
Absolutely epic music. The title track sounds like something from David Wise in DKC or Ken Griffeys Winning Run. It's a shame this game doesn't have a sound test! Sound effects are outstanding, with an impressive set of explosions and metal on metal clashes.
