Super Dunk Star for SFC
Review #2341
Super Dunk Star
So, Dunk Star, at last we meet for the first time, for the last time
Gameplay
Barely playable, yet charming in it's awfulness. Jarring movement. Nearly impossible to pass the ball. It's weird because at times you can and other times it just flat out doesn't do anything no matter how much you press the pass button. Also shooting is awful as you press B to jump but A to shoot. If you're anywhere near the rim it stitches to a Double Dribble-style QTE animation where you have to press A yet again. Oh and on defense there is no way to prevent the opponent from just driving to the lane and slamming it home every single time. I should hate this game more than I do, but it's so laughably bad that it's kind of fun.
It is also worth mentioning how terrible the rules are. After turnovers like traveling or fouls, gameplay just continues without a throw in. And those turnovers are always whistled and called a foul.
Level Design
Exhibition and tournament modes. Only 8 fake teams with terrible names.
Theme
Low production value, even for a 1992 title. This is a bargain bin title for sure. But it's all in English so I'm not sure why it didn't come to the West.
Art Style
NES+ quality graphics. Very hard to figure out the depth of the field. Poor framerate. Your player flickers like a strobe light. Almost painful to watch.
