Super Drift Out for SFC

Super Drift Out

A rally good racer

Genre: racing - overhead

Publisher: Visco Corporation

Year: 1995

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Turning your car moves the camera, like F1 Gran Prix. You'll crash often but acceleration is fast so it's not a big deal. No need to brake, just ease off the gas when needed. The gameplay is all about drifting around turns. Speed is slower than most overhead racers which makes the gameplay manageable.

Level Design Score: 5

Level Design Notes:

This is more like it! Finally, an overhead racing game designed around the limitations of the overhead perspective. The tracks don't have long straightaways with tight turns. Instead, it's just a bunch of tight turns. So instead of testing your reaction time to make every single turn, this game tests your ability to manage your drift to make the various kinds and series of turns. Thank you Visco! Licensed by Toyota and Subaru.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Definite arcade feel to it.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Pixelated mess with a dark color pallete. Looks like they downgraded prerendered artwork from the NeoGeo version. However, the performance is good and "feels" nice.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Great arcadey music on the menus and during tournament (WRC) races. Sound is good for the genre.

Overall Score: 69
