Super Family Tennis

For the whole family

Genre: sports - tennis

Publisher: Namco

Year: 1993

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Excellent controls. And it's actually playable because you can aim the ball, it doesn't go out on every shot, and the opponent doesn't return every single shot. Super Tennis remains the gold standard, but this game plays about as well.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Two modes - exhibition and tournament. Up to 4P simultaneous. Not much configuration other than picking a stadium and your player, although there's no difference between the players. It's pick up and play for sure.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Long, text-only menus without an English translation knocks this down a peg. Both men and women players, but there's no real difference.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

The sprites look ok, although they're rather small. Animation is good. I love all the little details like the line judges pointing. Scrolling is smooth and comfortable. Each court has its own design. The only downside is that the menus are incredibly ugly.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Horrible music with simple arcade synth sounds along with annoying voice samples reminiscent of that infamous Pilotwings song. Thje in-game sounds are good, including the announcer calling out the score. So it's a mized bag

Overall Score: 75
