Super Mad Champ for SFC

Super Mad Champ

Road Rash meets Street Fighter

Genre: racing - vehicle combat

Publisher: Tsukuda Original

Year: 1995

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Blatant Road Rash clone, but with the worst controls and framerate you could imagine. A Genesis fanboy shoud use this as evidence that the SNES was weak compared to Sega's blast processing. Wow does this game crawl. The only thing worth mentioning is that if you crash you get off your bike and fight the other bike riders. Each race is multiple laps so theoretically you can get off your bike, jump kick each of the other four riders as they pass, beat them up until they're dead, and then get back on your bike and win the race. I hope it goes without saying that the controls and gameplay in the fighting mode are as horrible as those in the racing portion.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

The race tracks are about what you'd expect

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Colorful Mad Max

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Sprites are large but cartoony, which feels a little strange given the Mad Max-like theme. Choppy framerate and terrible animation are a major bummer. Also, the playable window is only about half the screen, making the terrible framerate even more puzzling.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Annoying sounds and ok music. You have full control over the volume levels for music and sound effects. Thank you!

Overall Score: 33
