Tactical Soccer for SFC

Tactical Soccer

Mouse soccer

Genre: sports - soccer

Publisher: Electronic Arts Victor

Year: 1995

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Obviously the sequel to Zico Soccer, as it plays a lot like it but with significant improvements. They don't make it fun, per se, but it's novel and actually works. The real problem is that there are so many blasted players on the pitch that it's virtually impossible to get the ball down the field. I prefer direct control over this cursor and commands, but it works reasonably well. The game speed is what really hurts though. You basically just have to mash the button and hope that the ball gets somewhere close to where you want it.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Tons of modes! More than I would ever use, but kudos to EA for their completeness.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Presentation is through the roof. This looks as good as any EA Sports title.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

The play area is tiny and you won't be looking at it anyway since you'll instead be watching the tiny dots on the map. A strong visual language communicates where everyone is and what they're doing so you never need to look up. It's weird watching these tiny dots though.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Loud jazzy music plays continuously.

Overall Score: 36
