Gameplay

The most boring, safe, standard turn-based RPG mechanics imaginable. A few QoL features are missing, such as an optimal equip, or even the courtesy of seeing whether the weapons and armor in the shop are improvements over your current loadout. Enemies are extremely stingy with EXP so be prepared to frequently visit an inn while grinding.
Movement feels fantastic, since you have 8-direction movement and the edges of doors and whatnot feel rounded, such that you never get stuck on corners.

Level Design

Point A to point B, with no dilly dally in between. In fact, the prologue was at least an hour long with no free will whatsoever. Again, very standard stuff. Still, I appreciate a game that like this every now and then, where the story absolutely rules the roost.

Theme

For some reason I really liked the simple boy-meets-girl story. It's in-your-face but also a cute and heartwarming narrative. I enjoyed the characters and the small-scale stakes. Yes a demon shows up as the villain, so the stakes will inevitably increase, but the entire experience feels grounded in relationships. It reminded me of FFVI in that regard.

Art Style

The overhead graphics are pretty good, if not amazing, but the battle graphics leave a lot to be desired. Simple enemy sprites and no hint of seeing your characters during the first person battles. Could've been better.

Audio

The music is excellent. Not top-tier, but very sweet, soft, and pleasant. Fits the sugary storyline perfectly.
