1941: Counter Attack
P-38 Lightning in a bottleGenre: shooter - vertical
Publisher: Hudson Soft
Year: 1991
System: PCE SG
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Such a tight, great feeling game. It's brutally difficult, but undeniably fun. Powerups and weapons operate the same as 1943 (expire after the timer hits zero) and are much better to collect as well. No more Twinbee bell mechanics!!
Level Design Score: 5
Level Design Notes:
Incredible. Every stage feels unique and features memorable set pieces and dynamics like moving construction cranes, canyon runs, missile bases, etc. So awesome
Theme Score: 5
Theme Notes:
Such a cool game. Take everything I wrote about 1943 and multiply by 5.
Art Style Score: 5
Art Style Notes:
Some fo the best graphics in an 16-bit title, much less in the shooter genre. Incredible animation and plane designs. Slowdown does happen but it's minimal.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Music is strangely serene for such a bombastic game. Sound effects are nice with one glaring exception - the charge beam. It's so awful and unnecessary that I recommend using turbo instead.
