A Ressha de Ikou MD

An unplayable mess

Genre: strategy - 4x

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1992

System: MD

Gameplay Score: 0

Gameplay Notes:

This game will make you appreciate the brilliance of SimCity. The controls here are obtuse and confusing. Even after reading a guide (for the NES version) I can't make heads or tails of the controls. How do I switch between laying tracks, removing them, and moving? How do I make trains start or stop moving? How do I pick up more materials for laying tracks? What even is my objective? This game leaves so many questions unanswered and the controls are so annoying that I will never touch it again.

Level Design Score: 0

Level Design Notes:

There are five maps. Five.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Railroad simulator? Yes please. However, there's no presentation here.

Art Style Score: 0

Art Style Notes:

Looks like a very early 80s DOS game. All you have is a static overhead view with no sprites, no cutscenes, no animations, and not artwork. It's like a single screenshot of an alpha build of SimCity.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

The music is this game's only redeeming value.

Overall Score: 8
