All za what now?Genre: shooter - vertical
Publisher: Naxat Soft
Year: 1992
System: PCE CD
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Plays great, like all of the Soldier series of shooters. Movement is fast and responsive, auto-fire is on, and enemies do their thing rather than swarming to you. No complaints there. The problem is the game's brevity, which I'll talk about in the level design, but even from a gameplay perspective the constant weapon drops and severe lack of danger make this not worth your time. Play the Soldier games instead.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
There are two stages. Enemy waves are fun and engaging but there are only a handful of them and virtually no challenge to be found. I get that the purpose of the game is to achieve a high score rather than to "beat the game" but still, there's not much to see here. The stages don't even have a proper boss fight.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
There are two modes - Attack and Story - but Story is simply Attack with a wall of japanese text to presumably explain what you're trying to achieve. The only real theme is the setting of the game which is a bombastic space shooter.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
I wish there were more stages to admire because this game looks fantastic. Great sprite work, layers of parallax, and colorful explosions.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
The two songs are energetic. Sound effects are properly in the background behind the music but might be even a touch too far back there.
Overall Score: 59
