Brave Battle Saga - Tai Kong Zhan Shi
Taiwan for the winGenre: rpg - japanese
Publisher: Chuanpu Technologies
Year: 1996
System: MD
Gameplay Score: 5
Gameplay Notes:
Every QoL improvement you'd expect for a late Gen release. Well, almost The battle speed is painfully slow and there's a long intro where you're a one-person party but otherwise this is high quality. Movement and text speed is configurable, battles are avoidable, ala Chrono Trigger, and your menu selections are remembered. Battles also feature ATB, which is also configurable. One of the better 16-bit RPG systems out there.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Good but not great. Linear stages and some annoying "talk to the right person" gates which unlock the next gate. Still, above average for sure.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Poor translation and a boring setting weigh things down. Forgettable
Art Style Score: 5
Art Style Notes:
Done of the best 16-bit pixel art, especially for the Genesis/MD. Great color and art design. Looks a bit like Secret of Mana.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Music is a touch too lively for my tastes, but unquestionable quality, especially for the venerable Mega Drive. Good stuff
