Captain Planet and the Planeteers

Stupid eco-geeks!

Genre: action - gun

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1993

System: MD PAL

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Plays like a THQ game. Terrible hit detection, enemies with no collision, etc. Momentum problems and everything else terrible about Western games of the era. 20% draw distance to boot. The only saving grace is a decent shotgun style weapon. You run out of ammo fairly quickly but can get more from random enemy drops. Oh and the platforming actually works. Still, this so an absolute piece of crap.

Level Design Score: 0

Level Design Notes:

You can pick from any of four levels. Each one has an indecipherable objective and a wide open, go wherever you want design. It's just an enormous square with identical platforms in all directions. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? Enemies spawn infinitely and are basically impossible to avoid so all you can do is wander around until your health and ammo eventually run out. Horrible in every way possible.

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

Ted Turner's pet environmentalist project has always fascinated me for its sheer hubris and stupidity. It was always laughable, even when I was in his intended target audience. So, so stupid.

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Butt ugly. The designers clearly tried to make it look good, but failed spectacularly.

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

Some of the worst sound effects in any game. The squirts and belches and toots create a cacophony of annoying sounds, like your little brother makes when he's desperately trying to bug you. The music isn't much better.

Overall Score: 12
