City Hunter
I know how to make you feel betterGenre: action - gun
Publisher: Sunsoft
Year: 1990
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Unlimited ammo Laggy inputs Deliberate movement Enemies love to run into your sprite, but you've got a long health bar. Each stage has a couple of rooms where you can recover health by visiting a lady. Kinda sketchy. No platforming, just walk along and climb stairs, Castlevania-style.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Stages are laid out like any Metroidvania, with small rooms connected by doors and stairs. I got lost more than once but the stages are small enough that you don't necessarily need a map. I wish there was one though. Tons of doors to enter. When you exit you're often greeted by enemies swarming you, like leaving rooms in Bionic Commando. The objective of each stage is to find a series of people, in the correct sequence. There are no guides or helps, so this might be best played with a walkthrough.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Each stage is a case to be solved. I'm guessing you're a P.I. or a mercenary of some sort. You okay as a guy who's obviously a lady's man, as there is a lot of innuendo. Your partner is a girl who gives you a briefing before the stage. I like the grounded, modern setting.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Simple but clean. Clearly an early title that wouldn't look out of place on the NES. Many of the rooms feel samey but there's enough variety to keep things interesting. It's worth mentioning that your bullets are unmistakable as sperms.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Typical Sunsoft quality music. Sounds effects aren't as good and again sound 8-bit quality.
