Tanks for playingGenre: shooter - vertical
Publisher: NEC
Year: 1991
System: PCE CD
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Slow movement and no weapons - only a couple of levels of powerup for your peashooter. One hit death and a large hitbox. Most enemies go down in one hit but larger tanks can take a lot of punishment. A severe lack of variety in enemies causes some boredom. Overall decent but decidedly forgettable.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
As average as the gameplay. The usual city, ocean, enemy base stages from all these WW2 shooters. Stages are incredibly long without clear breaks between them.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
I'm a sucker for these WW2 shooters. Having one set in Europe rather than the Pacific is a nice change of pace. Still, presentation is fairly low.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Early gen, and it looks it. The same five enemies are recycled again and again. They look ok, but nearly all are tanks. Worse looking than the HuCard version, surprisingly.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Far better sound quality, but still a tiny soundtrack (4 songs). Better than the PCE and miles better than the MD version.
Overall Score: 59
