System: Sega CD
Gameplay Score: 0
Gameplay Notes:
No guides, no menus, no options, only 4 lives, almost no visual indicators, terrible hit detection, and incomprehensible timing. Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, and horrible loading times. It's a quaint reminder of what once was, but not a "game" in the truest sense of the word. Just watch it on YouTube.
Level Design Score: 0
Level Design Notes:
Even with a step by step guide I couldn't make it past the bats. The timing of each QTE is so unintuitive that I don't see how anyone could figure it out. Horrible.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Don Bluth crafted a quintessential damsel-in-distress rescue mission that makes you want to love this cartoon (I refuse to call it a game).
Art Style Score: 1
Art Style Notes:
Horrendous video quality. If you must play (or watch) it, find any other version. This one is awful. The dithering alone makes it painful to watch.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
There's no music, likely due to the constant loading of new areas. the experience would've benefited greatly from a soundtrack.
Overall Score: 10
