Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Plays a bit faster than the MD version (PAL 50Mhz sux) but still one of the slowest platformers that I can think of. It's like playing as a geriatric patient, shuffling around the halls of a nursing home. You can build up "speed" after several seconds of walking but this takes so long that you really use it. Think Hook, but at 1/4 speed. Your only ability is to jump, so bopping enemies is your only means of attack. This time around I did figure out the spell crafting feature, but it's clunky, stupid guesswork. Just give me the spell and be done with it. The spells seem useless anyway. Do these give you offensive capabilities? Movement tech? Powerups? Who knows.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Standard platformer stuff with verticality and variety. Looks and plays like stages ripped from Magical Quest with Mikey Mouse, only with the slowest movement ever. It's a shame the controls are so awful.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
I have no idea what's going on. Has a medieval fairy tale in the dark woods feel to it.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Incredible pixel art with fantastic animation and pseudo scaling effects. Drab colors and ugly characters, especially your Dutch boy hair, bring it down a notch but the graphics are the highlight.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Massive improvement over the unimpressive MD version. Not perfect, but a lovely atmospheric soundtrack.
