Jim Power for PCE CD

Image: MobyGames

Jim Power

The nausea-inducing parallax scrolling is gone

Genre: action - gun

Publisher: Micro World

Year: 1993

System: PCE CD

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Cheap enemy spawns One-hit death tho enemies take multiple hits Can't walk and shoot simultaneously No rapid fire Weird physics - your descent after jumping feels horribly unnatural. And the height of the jump is both short and horribly unreliable. Also, the sides of platforms are rounded such that you roll off them and more or less warp off them. Again, unnaturally.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Stupid water drip enemies everywhere Short jump and cheap hits makes platforming beyond tough

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

The original's guy with a gun is enhanced with a lengthy opening cinematic that's as ridiculous as it is generic. The President's hot daughter has been kidnapped and only Jim Power can rescue her from the bad man's clutches. Snake Plissken you ain't, Jim.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

The nausea-inducing parallax scrolling from the SNES version is mercifully gone. What's left is the final form of Amiga art direction. Colors are muted compared to the SNES version, but otherwise the graphics are decent.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Decent music

Overall Score: 47

Review ID: 11056
