This game sucks. Are you shocked?Genre: action - hack n slash
Publisher: Masaya
Year: 1989
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Barely playable. Movement is painfully slow and even worse because of the momentum based physics. It takes a good second to go from zero to full-speed, even when changing direction. This means you have to carefully time every move or jump. And you can forget about changing direction midair since this effectively caused you to stop dead in your tracks. Your only offensive move is a sword swipe with short reach but a mercifully wide arch. Enemies zoom to you and most take multiple hits. Thankfully they generally will be knocked back by a hit, but not the missile that come flying at you and cannot reliably be destroyed. Instead you have to carefully manipulate them to be sent at you at just the right height, jump over them, and swing your sword to cause just enough of a delay that you can clear the missile on your descent. Prepare to lose most of your health to these stupid things. Overall it's not a complete trainwreck, but there's no fun to be found here.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
The levels themselves are as uninteresting as can be, but I'm going to give a little credit to the developers because you can choose a branching path to the next stage, ala Star Fox or SMB3. The stages are very short and feature tiny platforms that will test both your patience and your skills with the terrible controls.
Theme Score: 1
Theme Notes:
Discount Mega Man. Between stages a sciency old man (Dr. Light?) and fresh faced young lady (Roll?) give you encouragement and offer supplies to purchase. Otherwise this is an embassingly bad clone that only makes me want to play a real Mega Man game.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Looks like a Master System game. Flat, boring backgrounds and simple sprites with no animation.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
Some decent chiptunes. Nothing too exciting, but great compositions. Almost no sound effects though.
Overall Score: 29
