Kaze Kiri
Genre: action - hack n slash
Publisher: Naxat Soft
Year: 1994
System: PCE CD
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Plays a little like Ninja Warriors. You've got multiple attacks which work on certain enemies. You attack depends on how close you are to an enemy. If no one is close you throw a shuriken. If one is close you swing a sword. If right next to some enemies you throw them. You can jump and swing your sword or do a down kick by holding down and attacking. Movement is slow except when jumping. Oh and you can do a sliding attack by tapping twice on the d-pad. It's not perfect and could be more responsive but I enjoyed the variety.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Unfortunately the levels are not interesting at all. You're in a long hallway/arena and need to kill a certain number of enemies before you can leave. A meter shows how many are remaining. This structure got old quickly. The levels themselves are devoid of anything other than enemies.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Ninjas! Cutscenes with Japanese text.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Excellent sprites. Looks like Ninja Gaiden in 16 but. I wish the colors were a little more vibrant but this is a ninja working in the shadows. The background are also a bit drab but I really like the sprites.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Good music is unfortunately drowned out by sound effects that are way too loud.
Overall Score: 68
