Lemmings
Slowdown incarnateGenre: puzzle - platform
Publisher: Sunsoft
Year: 1992
System: PCE CD
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
What can you say about Lemmings? It's a near perfect puzzle game. Unfortunately, this version is so incredibly slow. Play any other version instead.
Level Design Score: 5
Level Design Notes:
After a quick series of tutorials you're on your own to figure out the puzzles which quickly become devious and are always addictive and satisfying to complete. Wonderful difficulty curve. Play for as long as you'd like and use a password to pick up where you left.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Simple premise and I appreciate that they didn't try to give the lemmings 90s 'tude or some such nonsense. It's just a game about lemmings who will do whatever you tell them to do. Now off you go. Oh and the little bit of personality that they did include is perfectly charming, like the "oh no" a lemming calls out when he's about to explode. So satisfying.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Lacks details in the other versions.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Lovely CD-quality music. The sound effects take a huge hit, however. For example, it's nearly inaudible when you assign a job to a Lemming.
