Magical Dinosaur Tour
Encyclopedias have gone the way of the dinosaursGenre: educational - n/a
Publisher: NEC
Year: 1990
System: TG-16 CD
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
It's a digital encyclopedia, for better or worse. The cursor is slow on pages that use one, but my only real complaint is how tiny the viewport for text boxes is. The box only shows two lines of text and scrolling up or down snaps to the next line rather than giving a nice scrolling effect.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
This software's design amounts to a few different ways to find and access the dinosaur-specific enyclopedia articles. There's a visual view where you pick an era, a geographical region, and then mouse over and click on a dinosaur from a multi-screen landscape picture. This is fun, but cumbersome. Next, there's a simple alphabetical list of articles with a couple of query tools to simplify searching. Third, a beautiful branched evolution chart with dinosaurs to click on. Fourth, a text-based representation of that evolution chart, with articles grouped by evolutionary families. Finally, a page with a few "top 3" lists of the biggest and tallest and fastest dinos.

Art Style Notes:
Very little video or animation. I was hoping for some FMV of dinos running around. Still, the pictures are fun to look at because...dinosaurs!

Lovely music makes you feel like you're in a museum.
