Micro Machines in HellGenre: racing - vehicle combat
Publisher: Victor
Year: 1993

Gameplay Score: 0
Gameplay Notes:
Truly bizarre game design that has an interesting idea but completely fumbles it in execution. You don't drive a car - instead you command a team of three or four racers. The goal is for your team to finish as many laps as possible during the time limit. The only way to "win" against the opposing team is to destroy one or more of their racers, since that means fewer completed laps. Damage can be administered either by using weapons or ramming the other cars. However, ammunition is limited and runs out VERY quickly, and ramming damages you as much as them. So...good luck. All your vehicles are AI controlled, so you can do absolutely nothing and still finish all races. In summary, it's a game that plays itself and punishes you for trying to jump in.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Every track appears to be more or less a rounded square. Again, you don't need to steer, so the design doesn't matter much, but with no boosters or even obstacles, the tracks all feel identical. I'll give it a point because there's a shop between tracks, but even this is half baked.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
HardCoreGaming101 aptly describes the theme of this game as "cyberpunk as hell”. I couldn't describe it better. It's different, but not an attractive aesthetic.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
The artwork is best described as Micro Machines in hell. Instead of colorful locals, the tracks appear to be floating in a hellscape. Sprites animate well but all look the same. There's not much to see here.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Not the best music, but it's not bad either. The sound is easily this title's best feature, although that's not saying much.
