P-47 - The Freedom Fighter
Discount U.N. Squadron. Area 44 maybe?Genre: shooter - horizontal
Publisher: Aicom
Year: 1989
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Peashooter. You can eventually get a sub weapon that fires a spread of other peashooters but enemies are so tiny that even the widest spread shot isn't great at taking anything out. Most enemies die in one shot but those that don't require way too many. Your hitbox is large.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Standard stuff. Few environmental hazards. Mostly just wave after wave of enemies. Bosses are also boring planes flying slowly.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Kill the Nazis. I'm a sucker for WW2 war games.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
The plane models are authentic to a fault. They're so narrow! Still, from a purely visual experience they look great. Th backgrounds are far less impressive. The first level reminded me of Barnstorming on the Atari 2600. If you know you know. The next stage was a red sunset which I think the devs wished was impressive but you can see gaps in the parallax scrolling levels. Not good
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
At best the music doesn't match the theme and at worst it's annoying to listen to. Sounds are limited to a couple of tinny pings.
