Panorama Cotton
3D Gunstar HeroesGenre: shooter - corridor
Publisher: Sunsoft
Year: 1994
System: MD
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Tough as nails. Enemies swarm from stage two onward and you don't regain health between stages for some reason. B has auto fire but it's slow so mashing or holding briefly and then taking a brief pause gives you a faster fire rate. C fires a magic spell. I think it helps but it's hard to tell. Thankfully enemies die from a single hit, unlike many other games in this genre. A toggles between three speeds. No slowdown despite crazy stuff happening. The way the camera moves makes shooting a bit annoying and distracting. This is my main complaint.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Amazing variety for a rail shooter. The environment switches between wide open spaces to underground caves to space tunnels and back again. I love seeing the next biome on display. Some stages feature a lot of environmental hazards, including some which animate.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Cotton is your standard witch with a sexy fairy friend game. It's cute and over-the-top in its craziness.
Art Style Score: 5
Art Style Notes:
Incredible. Looks like a 3D Gunstar Heroes. Amazing use of color and sprite work.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
The music isn't bad - it fits the theme - but the sounds are so annoying. If I don't hear Cotton scream ever again it'll be too soon.
