Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure

Yet another David Perry camera

Genre: action - punch n kick

Publisher: Activision

Year: 1994

System: Sega CD

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Cut from the same cloth as Maui Mallard, Lion King, Jungle Book and all the similar games. Spastic camera, floaty controls, hard to distinguish platforms, maze-like levels, crappy hit detection, cheap hits, etc.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Maze-like. Hard to tell where to go. Requires precise platforming and the ridiculous vine grabs from Lion King. Enemies pop out for cheap hits. Lots of blind jumps.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

I love the original! I'd love for this to be a good game.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Amazing graphics but man the animation is overkill. Less color than the SNES version

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Fantastic sound design. The music perfectly fits the setting and the tempo and the sound effects also match the theme. Every coalesces well. It's not something I'd listen to outside the game but every melds well.

Overall Score: 59
