Power Eleven
The easiest pick up and play soccer titleGenre: sports - soccer
Publisher: Hudson Soft
Year: 1991
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
I love the simplicity and fun factor on display here. The AI is dumb as a box of rocks, but I appreciate a soccer game where I can score and play all phases of the game - defense, offense, passing, tackling, and the like. And they do it all with one button. Brilliant.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Season, VS, Watch, and PK mode Dead simple to jump into a game.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Hudson's patented unassuming, fun, arcadey style. A goofy opening cinematic shows someone enter a HuCard and power up the PC Engine. No language barrier.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Not much to look at. The top-down view makes this look more like a foosball table than a soccer pitch. Basic but attractive. The PK mode looks amazing, even if the gameplay is awful.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
I love the music and simple sound effects. Even the voice acting, which is all in English, is impressive for the era.
