Prince of Persia
PoP, with the soundtrack!Genre: adventure - platform
Publisher: TTI
Year: 1992
System: TG-16 CD
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Laggy inputs, especially on jumps. Press half a second before you want to jump. If only jumping to grab a ledge and climbing down didn't require such precision. You have to be in the exact right spot. Combat isn't fun either.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
The levels seem designed to highlight rather than minimize the game's warts. Climbing and descending platforms and jumps are ridiculously tough in this game but the levels seemed designed to make these two things even more difficult. There's also a 60 minute timer - half of what the SNES version gives you. I guess it gives some urgency but I find it distracting. I'm already playing your dumb game, I don't need motivation to keep going, sheesh.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Save the girl from the evil dude. Even so this is a stone cold classic setting.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Has a nice, clean look that's also far less details than the SNES or Genesis versions. It's not ugly like the Sega CD version but isn't great either. Good use of color throughout.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Incredible soundtrack. Well, an incredible song. It's awesome but at some point I'd like some variety.
