Ranma ½: Dato, Ganso Musabetsu Kakuto Ryuu
I can see why this didn't catch on in the statesGenre: fighting - 1v1
Publisher: Masaya
Year: 1992
System: PCE CD
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Every fight is unique. Even the attacks are distinct. Only two buttons - jump and attack. Enemies have a few seconds of i-frames after being attacked which extends the length of fights. Terrible hit detection
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Again, the fights are more like scripted encounters than like traditional fighting game stages. They're not particularly difficult, but are fun to see what comes next. Near the end of each fiht the enemy changes their attacks, sort of like an extended desperation move. It's a unique and interesting experience.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
Copious amounts of fan service, right from the get-go. The first fight is as a topless girl. Long cutscenes introduce each new stage, but they're in Japanese so I don't understand what's going on.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
The cutscenes are beautifully drawn. Fight scenes has small sprites with decent animation and well dranw, but sort of boring artwork. But it looks like you're in the anime, if you like that sort of thing. The variety of artwork and sprites is a plus.
