Rise of the Robots
Real Bad SteelGenre: fighting - 1v1
Publisher: Acclaim
Year: 1994
System: MD PAL
Gameplay Score: 0
Gameplay Notes:
Battles are long. Even on Easy and the longest time allowed (60 secs) most battles end when the time runs out No special moves that I could find Enemy attack have ridiculously long reach and most can't be blocked Only one robot to fight as. Dragon is the only other fighting game I can think of which did this. Well, also Ultraman. Basically unplayable without a 6 button controller since I can't figure out how to kick using a 3 button. So it's even worse than the SNES version, which I gave a zero.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Just a bunch of metallic, vaguely futuristic warehouses with nothing to look at. Only the Story and Versus modes
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
Mechs fighting has potential. If only you could use more than one robot!
Art Style Score: 1
Art Style Notes:
Almost no frames of animation Some of the ugliest prerendered artwork in a video game Colors are so washed out, even mroe here than in the SNES version. Whoever colorized the game really really likes purple Character models themselves are nice
Audio Score: 1
Audio Notes:
Far worse music than the SNES version. Sounds are almost non-existent.
Overall Score: 11
