Spin Pair
Yoshi, with a rotate mechanicGenre: puzzle - blocks
Publisher: Media Rings
Year: 1990
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Blocks drop in pairs and can be reversed and rotated in four directions. This generally means you can successfully create only one match and the other block gets stacked onto the pile. The only strategy I could come up with was to put like blocks on the same row, as creating a match wipes out all like-colored blocks in a row, regardless of their orientation. The rotating mechanic is surprisingly fun and engaging. I had a good time with it.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Four modes: Normal, Story, Battle, and VS. No puzzle though. And on normal you can choose the handicap, like Tetris or Dr. Mario.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Some cute chracters on the title screen don't have anything to do with the rest of the game, but they give a tiny bit of character. The story mode also makes this stand out somewhat.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Very simple graphics. Could be an 8-bit title. They're attractive but very, very simple.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Three tunes to choose from, and they're each fun.
