The Fault in Our StarsGenre: puzzle - blocks
Publisher: Naxat Soft
Year: 1992
System: PCE CD
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Incredibly simple concept. A two tiered scale must be balanced by placing falling star blocks of up to five colors. Each color weighs one more than the next, such that 5 blue blocks equal the weight of one red. Each scale can only hold a difference of two so you must carefully maintain the balance. Placing similarly colored pieces on top of one another results in point multipliers and sandwiching blocks between same colored pieces caused the middle pieces to disappear. Six difficulty levels make for an approachable experience.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Unfortunately there are no modes - just a single block falling mode where you need to create a pile with a given number of blocks. Each stage requires a slightly taller pile. There's no puzzle mode or any other mechanic.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Simple. The game looks and feels like an arcade game and, like so many PCE games it's stupid easy to jump into a game. Also, all text is in English.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Simple but effective. There's not much to look at but the background change every 5 to 10 levels and feature some cute constellations to support the star theme.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
The music is a highlight. There are two tracks which are both pleasant and enjoyable.
