Stellar-Fire
Fast BattlezoneGenre: shooter - corridor
Publisher: Dynamix
Year: 1993
System: Sega CD
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Plays like Battlezone, that vector-based first-person tank shooter game. Only, in this game your enemies aren't slow-moving tanks. Instead, they're lightning fast birds and missles that you simply can't hit. You've got two weapons plus a screen clearing bomb with limited ammo. The gun and missile weapons have unlimited ammo and rapid fire. Hitting anything is only by chance due to how fast enemies are and the fact that they spend most of the time flying around being untouchable. They hit you far more often than you hit them. Health pickups are everywhere to the point where I never even thought about my health. In fact, I got so bored with the featureless world and never-ending swarm of enemies that I tried just holding down on A, B, up and left to see how long I'd last. Ten minutes later I was done wondering. Pervasive slowdown
Level Design Score: 0
Level Design Notes:
The world is completely open and entirely featureless. There's nothing but enemies. No objectives, no kill count to reach, no location to find, no path to follow. Nothing.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
The setup looks cool enough. You're some sort of space miner out to make your fortune in the Wild Space West, or something. Nothing about the game aligns with this premise, so I guess the map doesn't match the terrain.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Colorful vector graphics. It's like a multi-colored Red Alarm for Virtual Boy.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Rocking, heavy metal tunes. Satisfying sound effects.
