Tecmo World Cup: Super Soccer
The one with a Metal soundtrackGenre: sports - soccer
Publisher: Media Rings
Year: 1992
System: PCE CD
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Plays quite different than the Genesis version but with most of the same mechanics. For starters it retains the side view. Movement and passing are much slower but are still relatively easy to accomplish. Just like the Genesis version, I love that you can rapidly pass and kick the ball around. No sim here. Unlike the Genesis version, however, are the long animations and awkward timing required for receiving or kicking a passed ball. I was successful maybe 10% of the time. Overall this is an ok (for soccer) game, but pales in comparison to the Genesis version.

Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Improved presentation, including good menu music and Japanese girls at halftime.
Art Style Score: 1
Art Style Notes:
Very small sprites with minimal animation. They remind me of the weird sprites from the OG Metal Gear NES games. Big step down from the Genesis version.
Audio Score: 5
Audio Notes:
Massive improvement over the Genesis! The song that plays during gameplay is pure 80s metal and it is glorious. Even the sound effects and voices are top notch.
