Tenseiryuu - Saint Dragon
I thought St George was the patron saint of dragonsGenre: shooter - horizontal
Publisher: Aicom
Year: 1990
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Reminds me of Syvalion, but plays much better. You're a dragon with a long segmented body which acts as a trail of options. They don't fire - only your head does - but they deal damage and can act as a shield. This is the main gimmick - wrapping your tail around you to protect you and using the tail to damage bosses as they move around the screen. No auto-fire. Enemies require multiple hits while you die in one shot. No meaningful powerups. You fire a flame in front of you and occasioally a small spread of bullets is fired as well. Powerups slightly improve this normal shot but you never get any other kind of weapon. Both buttons simply fire.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Standard stuff. Some cheap enemy placement that has them appear above, below, or behind you which is difficult to deal with since your weapons can only fire directly ahead. No difficulty levels or other configuration settings.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Dragons are cool, right? Zero presentation. Even the title screen is nothing more than text.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Tons of flicker. Boring enemy designs. Half of them are some form of a rock. Tame backgrounds as well. Nothing to see here.
Audio Score: 1
Audio Notes:
Your shot makes the loudest noise imaginable! It's like smashing a bag full of rocks on a concrete floor. Every time you shoot. The music is horribly offkey.
