Tougiou King Colossus
Illusion of Gaia rough draftGenre: adventure - overhead
Publisher: Sega
Year: 1992
System: MD
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Blatant Zelda clone without an overworld. Slow movement, short reach, basic inventory and equipment mechanics. Does nothing well, but nothing bad either. Enemies hit like a truck, making death a constant threat. Unspectacular but I could see playing it to completion.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
A series of Zelda style dungeons with mechanics ripped from the original (keys, bombs) and LttP (drop down to a lower floor). Simplistic puzzles and some NPC interactions to set up fetch quests.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Full of tropes. Your abusive dad sends you on a series of quests which get into some heady topics like cults, human sacrifice, and abuse.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Everything's a dungeon so there isn't much variety. But the sprites are well drawn. This is probably generous but I liked it well enough.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Awesome tunes that unfortunately loop too quickly.
Overall Score: 62
