Undead Line
Overhead Ghouls n' GhostsGenre: shooter - vertical
Publisher: PAL SOFT
Year: 1991
System: MD
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Slow movement. Five or six weapons but only one with spread capabilities. Everything else is a peashooter or has limited shots on screen. Several other pickups but these are acquired via a treasure chests which cycle through the entire list by shooting them. Good luck grabbing the one you want. Enemies are damage sponges, especially bosses. The only gimmick is a shield which blocks projectiles, but only if they hit you in an ill-defined hitbox.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
I couldn't get past the first stage! Bullet hell plus huge hitbox and slow movement add up to unrelenting and unbearable difficulty.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Love the high fantasy, medieval setting
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Bland but performant. The monster roster is unique, anyway.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
Fantastic music that's ruined by atrocious sound effects. Every shot plays a high pitched pulse, with some weapons causing a near constant stream of ear crimes.
Overall Score: 39
